Cherry Orchard Garage Sale- 24 Hour Theater Performance

CHERRY ORCHARD GARAGE SALE
24 HOUR THEATER PERFORMANCE
By Cacolet Collective

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10, 6PM- SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 6PM

Cherry Orchard Garage Sale is a new translation and radical adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s last masterpiece The Cherry Orchard that transforms the story of the late nineteenth-century crisis of the Russian aristocracy and estate auction into the present day reality of Brooklyn: the borough’s gentrification, the lingering effects of the economic crisis, its diverse communities, its rich culture of flea markets, and the funemployment of the millennial generation.

Cherry Orchard Garage Sale is a performing arts and installation project that seeks to superimpose the action of the play into the real-time, immersive experience of an actual garage sale. This performative garage sale will encourage visitors to think of values that are not monetary and to form a temporary community outside the logic of the capitalist market.
