Friday, July 15, 5-7p at Glasshouse

A participatory performance of earthen oven construction and storytelling, in collaboration with 3ecologies project in Quebec who will be joining the event virtually. This family friendly (muddy!) event will look at community building and resistance practices within the daily.

“I have very special memories of collective bread making for special occasions in my home village in Syria. We would stay awake all night taking turns to keep the fire for cooking and then carry the boiled wheat to sun dry on the roofs; families take turn and help each other keep the fire going… these are unforgeable days and a way to resist and sustain within the oppressive life we had and it was a way to preserve our lives and community." Khadija Baker

We will use clay extracted from the Wallkill River, use our feet to press and prepare the oven and enjoy a collective process that might or might not lead to an operating earthen oven.
