Framing Air: A 24h Performance Program

“What is a window other than air framed by a molding?” asks Clarice Lispector, describing a freedom defined by its borders.  

Framing Air is an outdoor durational performance art program at Glasshouse Project showcasing works and gestures by six interdisciplinary artists: Catherine Chen engages with porcelain and the migratory history of Chinese ritual objects; Sergey Jivetin presents a site specific installation which functions as a cloud, Jessica Maffia weaves boundaries of a void with milkweed silk, Amalya Megerman reinvents a premodern ritual of Judeo-Christian coexistence, Rude Ink will be under a rock, and Jatun Risba will be bringing glass, soil and embodied ritual.

Ephemeral practices often thrive where forms remain modest and mutable, recalling Yona Friedman’s “realizable utopias”—democratic, ecological frameworks designed to remain open to change, reuse, and participation over time.This program is part of Upstate Art Weekend 2026

Glasshouse Project Inc. is dedicated to nourishing the research, contextualization and development of live art, with a focus on durational performance art. We support the process of live artists through a residency program, an event program, workshops and publications. We work with a diverse roster of local and international artists and scholars, to develop and rethink cutting edge works of contemporary performance art. Glasshouse Project is community-based and ecologically driven- our aim is to provide quality cultural offerings crafted with and for the local rural community we are part of.

Participating Artists:

Catherine Chen is a Brooklyn-based poet and performer. Encompassing poetry, video, collaboration, and modes of installation, their work explores the relationship between textuality, mythology, and material histories. Sergey Jivetin uses the skill set of a master craftsman to transform ordinary materials into potent conveyors of meaning.  His practice introduces miniature elements into unexpected settings to examine humanity's convoluted relationship with nature.https://www.sergeyjivetin.com/

Amalya Megerman creates performance, installation, video, and sculpture using traditional Jewish ritual, organic material, and recurring themes of body, family, and resilience against state oppression, to create new means of collective resistance and healing. https://www.amalyamegerman.com/

Jessica Maffia is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in New York City. In reverence and mourning, she honors the natural world of the city and its surroundings through repetitive, meditative processes. https://www.jessicamaffia.com/ 

Jatun Risba (they/them) is a migrant transmedia artist from Slovenia. Their work engages with ecofeminist and posthumanist discourses through performance, conceptual, and relational art, incorporating practices of abjection, détournement, and artistic intervention. https://jatunrisba.com/
